South Korean technology gaint Samsung uneviled the new made-in-India tablet, Galaxy Tab Iris today. As the name indicates, the new Samsung tablet comes with a biometric technology based dual Eye Iris scanner on the top-left corner of the device’s back. We had earlier this month reported of Samsung importing Iris cam eqiqpment in two batches in the April 2016.
Developed and designed by Samsung R&D facility at Bangalore, the Galaxy Tab Iris can be used for Aadhaar-based paperless and cashless eGovernance services such as Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), National Health Mission (NHM), eHospital program, DigiLocker services, taxation, passport, education and healthcare. Besides the government services, this gadget can also be used by banks and business enterprises to use the 12-digit Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) number to authenticate financial transactions, the company said in a press release. Through this break through technology E-KYC can be carried out in seconds whereas the current KYC takes up to 2 to 7 days.
Coming with robust design and powerful technology the Iris tablet also sports a vivid 7.0-inch WSVGA(1024×600) display. The device comes with a 5-megapixel auto focus rear camera for clicking brighter pictures and scanning documents. The device comes with an 8GB memory, up to 200GB expandable memory and a strong 3600mAh battery. Connectivity options include 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz, BT4.1, USB2.0 with Host. Running on Android Lollipop OS, the device is powered with 1.5GB RAM and an inbuilt storage of 8GB which can be further expanded to 200GB on a micro SD card.
With a language support in 14 lndian languages, the Korean major aims to penetrate into rural and untapped markets. At 327 grams the Tablet has dimensions 193.4 x 116.4 x 9.7mm along with a slim 9.7mm profile. This device is STQC-certified and is protected by Samsung Knox and sends only encrypted packets. With open SDKs and APIs this device lets developers create applications seamlessly. Priced at Rs. 13,499, the device is currently available to enterprises only.
