Twitter-Google tie-up to put tweets in search results

Twitter and Google  announced a partnership on tuesday to put tweets in search results. This is a renewed deal that ended in 2011.

This will allow Google to display more real-time information in search results. Twitter will benefit from increase in user engagement. Twitter has a sluggish growth since last year which is reflected in it’s stock price.

Twitter Vice-president Jana Messerschmidt in a blog announced the deal. The twitter Vice-president said “We’re excited to team up with Google to bring Twitter’s unique, real-time content to Google’s search results” .

Twitter-Google deal

Similar deal existed between 2009 and 2011. The deal was not renewed after 2011.

The present deal will start with Google app and mobile app. The complete features of the deal will be rolled out “in coming months”

How it works?

For example, if you are IPL fan, a search for #IPL2015 will bring up most recent tweets about yesterday’s Qualifier match between CSK and MI.

Google product manager Ardan Arac said “It’s a great way to get real-time info when something is happening”

Twitter has a similar deal with Bing.

Here is the official blog from Google about the deal.
